Tai Chi Weaponry

When learning Tai chi, the ancient Chinese martial art of breath and exercise, also known as tai chi chuan a student has to demonstrate proficiency of offensive skills prior to warding off an attack. This ancient art from China lays a lot of emphasis on wu te or martial virtue. This show of heroism helps the student of the art to protect himself as a defenseless one and in turn, after rightly defeating the attack, show mercy to the opponent. Martial tai chi physical form also focuses on the manner in which the energy of a single strike actually gets transferred and affects the other combatant.

In the case of the various palm strikes, they may all physically look the same and even be same in appearance during a performance, but the truth is that each one is completely different from the other and has the desired specific effect on the target's body. Ideally a palm strike pushes the opponent forward and is focused to lift the person vertically off the ground. What this technique of Tai chi, the ancient Chinese martial art of breath and exercise, also known as tai chi chuan does is break the opponent’s center of gravity. By this move, the force of the strike on the other person's body is terminated and causes internal body damage.

Dedicated martial art training in the tai chi discipline involves the exhibition of training exercises such as weapons training with the fence, straight sword or jian, heavy curved sabre and sometimes even the broadsword or tao. Weapons allowed in this combat technique also include the folding fan or san, the us of a wooden staff or kun, a spear and even a lance that is traditionally referred to as qiāng. There are a number of exotic weapons also used by combatants in the exhibit include the large Dadao and P'u Tao, halberds, the rope-dart, wind and fire wheels, lasso and the three sectional staff.
